Reed Security was founded in 2000 in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, by Virgil Reed. What began as a local security company has grown into a trusted provider serving more than 5,000 clients across Saskatchewan and Alberta, with continued growth across Canada.

Meet Dave Schlegel
Dave Schlegel leads Reed Security’s Calgary operation as the local authorized Reed Security dealer. He works with Calgary homeowners and businesses to choose, install, and maintain security systems that are practical, dependable, and suited to each property.
Dave’s connection to Reed Security began in 2013, when he moved from Calgary to Saskatoon while his wife completed her Master’s degree at the University of Saskatchewan. During that time, he joined the Reed Security team and became part of the company’s hands-on approach to customer service, system installation, and technical support.
Before entering the security industry, Dave earned an Electronics Engineering Diploma from SAIT in Calgary. That technical background gave him a strong foundation in electronics, troubleshooting, installation, and system design. Those skills have served him well in a field where the details matter.
Over the years, Dave has built deep experience in security system installation, support, and design. He understands how to assess a property, identify security concerns, recommend the right equipment, and make sure the system is installed correctly. His work includes both residential and commercial projects, from straightforward alarm systems to more involved surveillance and access control setups.
When Dave and his family returned to Calgary in 2016, he and Virgil Reed saw a clear opportunity. Calgary needed a security provider that offered the same type of service Reed Security had become known for in Saskatoon: local knowledge, quality equipment, honest recommendations, and dependable support.
Dave became Calgary’s authorized Reed Security dealer to bring that approach back to his home city.
For Dave, Reed Security is more than a name on the side of a truck. It represents a way of doing business that values long-term relationships over quick sales. He believes security should feel clear, practical, and properly matched to the customer’s needs — not confusing, high-pressure, or oversized.
