Located along the scenic Charles River in Cambridge, Massachusetts, the Royal Sonesta Boston is a premier luxury hotel known for its striking waterfront setting and panoramic views of the Boston skyline. Positioned at the intersection of Cambridge innovation and Boston history, the property offers a unique blend of modern design, upscale accommodations, and vibrant city access.
The hotel is recognized as a AAA Four Diamond property and features thoughtfully designed guest rooms, contemporary interiors, and an extensive collection of modern artwork integrated throughout the space.
Scope of Project:
Draper partnered with TKE on a full modernization of the elevator systems at the Royal Sonesta Cambridge, aligning the cab interiors with the hotel’s recently renovated common areas. The updated design reflects a thoughtful and cohesive aesthetic, carrying the look and feel of the main reception space directly into the elevator experience.
A key feature of the design is the custom LED backlit glass rear wall, which creates a striking visual focal point while reinforcing the hotel’s modern, design-forward identity. To complement this feature, and with consideration for the high-traffic nature of hotel elevators—where luggage, carts, and service equipment are constantly in use—durable, high-performance materials were selected for the surrounding wall panels.
The result is a balanced design that not only delivers on aesthetics but is built to withstand long-term wear, ensuring the elevators maintain their appearance and performance in a demanding hospitality environment.
